Spain vs. Germany highlights: Spain wins in extra time, advances to semifinals

Spain Stuns Germany in Euro Thriller, Reaches Semis! A dramatic encounter at Euro 2024 saw Spain edge out Germany 2-1 after extra time, booking their place in the semifinals. The match, played in a pulsating atmosphere in Stuttgart, lived up to its billing as a clash of titans. The first half was a tight affair with both sides creating chances but failing to convert.

Spain, with their trademark possession-based style, dominated midfield but Germany's resolute defense held firm. The best opportunity fell to Kai Havertz, but his effort was well saved by the impressive Unai Simon in the Spanish goal. The deadlock was finally broken in the second half by Dani Olmo.

The young Spanish attacker latched onto a loose ball and fired a shot into the bottom corner, leaving Manuel Neuer with no chance. Germany responded with renewed urgency, and a late surge saw substitute Florian Wirtz equalize with a powerful header in the 89th minute, sending the home crowd into a frenzy and forcing extra time. The extra period continued the end-to-end nature of the contest. Just as penalties seemed inevitable, Mikel Merino rose highest to meet a pinpoint cross and head home the winner in the 119th minute. The German hearts were broken, while the Spanish players erupted in celebration.

This victory marks a significant moment for Spain. They've overcome a major obstacle and established themselves as genuine contenders for the European crown. Germany, on the other hand, will be left to rue their missed opportunities and ponder an unexpected exit on home soil.
